Welcome to The Forge—a blog about climate action and how local governments can better tackle the climate crisis.

We started The Forge (and the team behind it, CivForge) because we thought local climate professionals were lacking the tools, resources, and help they needed to seriously reduce emissions and combat climate change at the municipal level.

The premise behind The Forge is that it will be a place to share ideas among the local climate action community, regardless of whether the reader is a part of the CivForge family already. We welcome everyone because when it comes to climate change, progress anywhere is progress everywhere.

We’ll be using this blog to share exciting things that CivForge is doing and accomplishments our team has made in partnership with communities across the nation. But this will also be a place to share the latest developments in climate news and resources for climate professionals to take advantage of. Our aim is to connect public servants with the information and tools they need to better tackle climate, so we encourage you to subscribe to stay up-to-date with our latest posts.

To that end, we’re launching The Forge with two new resources in our Resource Library:

  • Using ARPA to fund climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience projects: This is a short memo that discusses how communities can use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to combat climate change. We filter through hundreds of pages of legalese in the Federal Register for guidance on climate spending, then distill it into a short, three-page memo to help municipalities orient themselves as they explore what’s possible with ARPA.
  • Why local climate planning has failed: This is a comprehensive, data-driven report that we’ve spent months preparing, and we’re extremely excited to share it with you. In it, we surveyed 28 cities’ climate action plans and found that the majority of them are not meeting their emissions goals. We investigate why this is the case and provide concrete recommendations to help climate professionals shift toward a more productive, dynamic planning paradigm.

Let us know what you think of these resources and what you’d like to see us produce next. Send your feedback, comments, and ideas to info@civforge.com.
